Meeting Report - April, 2017

The regular meeting of LIEVT was held at the West Hempstead Fire District headquarters on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Fifty some members enjoyed an excellent dinner and were made to feel welcome by the West Hempstead officers and men.

Our president, Bill D’Alessandro, a West Hempstead member, opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag and a minute of silence for the NYFD member who passed away on duty that day, our past members and our service people. Kit read the minutes from the meeting at Bay Shore which were approved as read.

Barbara Connelly, our treasurer, gave a report on our assets. She talked to the members about the possibility of sending a member to FDSOA in Florida or to the Spartan class in Michigan. We need a department to host the May 11 meeting – Harrison Generator will make the presentation. Wantaugh Fire Department will host the barbeque on Thursday, June 29. We still don’t have a firm date in May for the visit to the FDNY shops. We need a department to host the October daytime class for Fire Research Corp. Tom Probst will get Waterous Pump to make a presentation in October.

Bill introduced Paul Oberski. Service Manager of C E Niehoff and Co. He displayed an excellent power point and had the members interact with each screen. He discussed types of Batteries as well as charging and testing. His next topic was on Alternators and power for the vehicle when it is running and how to trouble shoot. His last presentation was on Regulators and Shore Power. Our members enjoyed the interaction.

Bill presented a framed certificate of appreciation to Paul Oberski and took one for Commissioner Kenny Brohm who represented the West Hempstead board. A raffle was held with donations from Hendrickson and Fire Research Corp. The meeting was adjourned.
