The president, Bill D’Alessandro, opened the meeting. He asked a member of the Copiague group to lead a pledge to the flag. He followed with a minute of silence for Steven McDonald of the NYPD who passed away this week. He asked Kit to read the minutes of the last meeting on October 26, 2016 at the West Hempstead Fire Department The minutes were accepted with a correction as pointed out by Nate Berry. This is the correction: "The vice-president. Danny Peluso, talked about the technical advances in today’s vehicles . When the first computer was introduced in vehicles in the 80s, he was lucky enough to be training as a technician and was introduced to the technology early on. Multi-plexing is something that all EVT techs should be familiar with. All vehicle electronics are going in this direction. EVT techs cannot afford to ignore it."Barnwell Tires is planning a training.
Danny Peluso reported that the Holbrook Fire Dept. will become a center for EVT. The members were informed that Harrison will do a two hour training between April and May. There was a poll of our members who would be attending FDSOA in Orlando next week. A motion was made to use LIEVT funds to pay for a get together of our attendees – the motion passed
Tommy Probst commented on how much FDNY has advanced technologically since 9/11. There was discussion of a possible FDNY trip, but more planning is required to pick a date and plan for transportation.
Anne Scott and Annmarie Tucker from the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund were introduced. They reported to our members that they collect used parts of apparatus and equipment from the Long Island fire departments to donate to needy fire departments. They can also purchase if it is within their budget.
The president introduced Carl Harr from Liquid Spring Suspension based in Lafayette, IN who discussed the silicone hydraulic shock and strut system they manufacture. He went over the mechanical and electrical components, operation and troubleshooting of the system.
Jeff Dillon and Lou from Massapequa Fire Dept talked about his experience retro-fitting the Liquid Spring Suspension on their GM ambulance which prior to the install was almost un-drivable. All told they had about 62 man-hours in the job, and there was a point where cutting was involved so there really was no going back but they were very pleased with the results as the vehicle now handles very well.
The president gave a framed certificate of appreciation to Carl Haar and Jeff Dillon.
A raffle was held with donations from Ferrara, Waterway, Hendrickson, FRC and Jack McLoughlin. The next meeting will be on February 9 at the Holtsville Fire Department.
The meeting was adjourned.
