Meeting Reports More than fifty members of LIEVT attended the first meeting of 2008 which was held at the Elmont Fire District on Thursday, February7. The President, Steve Velazquez, opened the meeting after the attendees enjoyed an excellent dinner. The chefs’ hats were certainly deserved. Steve talked to the members about training days that could be held at Kussmaul Electronics and at the Centereach Fire Dept. The dates of the upcoming EVT tests and training have not been announced but will be posted on the website www.lievt.org as soon as they are scheduled. Our member, Chris Lo Preto, who is a college instructor in his spare time will conduct the training. The members learned that the new pump house in Suffolk at Yaphank should be finished sometime in the late summer. The members have been hoping for this for a long time.

The main presentation was made by Telma – the frictionless braking system. Steve introduced Robert Dininni, the Northeast Regional Sales Manager and the main speaker, Engineer Ivan Antich whose presentation was riveting. The electric current converts to magnetism which was depicted clearly. You could have heard a pin drop – the questions and answers were excellent. He distributed literature and gave very detailed instruction on how to download all the information he discussed as well as trouble shooting, etc.

This was followed by an excellent raffle which included a great jacket and hats from Atlantic Detroit Diesel and Islander tickets from Fire News. Watch the website www.lievt.org for photos of this meeting as well as the date for the next meeting.
