Meeting Report - June 2006

[report submitted by Kit Cafaro] The final spring meeting was hosted by the East Meadow Fire Department on June 8, 2006. Close to fifty members were in attendance to enjoy the excellent buffet and hands-on, information packed program. Alex Perez and the members certainly earned their Fire Chefs’ Hats.

Steve Velazquez thanked East Meadow for hosting LIEVT and presented a plaque to Commissioner Bill Neal for the Department. The Commissioner talked about the importance of our members and how happy East Meadow was to have them as guests. Steve also presented a plaque to Alex Perez to thank him for his work in arranging the meeting. Steve reminded the members to go to http://www.LIEVT.org to keep up with the latest news and find links to pictures of this and previous meetings. He reminded the members that LIEVT will reimburse their airfare on Southwest to Firehouse in Baltimore next month –( talk to treasurer Paul Sailon for details.) Our in house professor, Chris Lo Preto, will continue to prepare our members for the EVT tests in the fall. He not only conducts the classes but arranges the testing dates, location and proctors. Steve thanked Jack McLoughlin of Fire Research for his support in supplying printing, copying, the webmaster, etc.

Neal Brooks of W. S. Darley brought a Darley pumper. He gave a talk first and then brought the members to the East Meadow yard where they took part in the hands-on demonstration which showed the efficiency of the CAFS system and the quiet Darley pump. Everyone enjoyed what looked like Christmas in June with the yard covered with foam.

Dick Young, the founder of Performance Advantage gave a talk on their tool mounts and then took the members to their show trailer which Dick Hartwell had in the East Meadow Bay. The members certainly enjoyed talking to them and trying all the products.

The members returned to the meeting room where Neal Brooks and Dick Young were presented with plaques and the raffles were conducted thanks to the generosity of Hendrickson, Fire Research, Performance Advantage, East Meadow Fire Department, W.S.
