The president, Steve Velasquez, opened the meeting and thanked the members who remembered member Joe Daniele and his family who lost their son. He discussed the success of the Hale Pump Day which was held at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy last month. He mentioned a few possibilities for the summer such as some kind of meeting to show off the members’ antique and special vehicles or a trip to a fire truck plant – an invitation to Kovatch in Pennsylvania stands. He also talked about the members writing articles for the trade publications. They would love to hear how our members solve their problems. Firehouse in Baltimore will be held from July 24 – 29.
The treasurer, Paul Sailon, discussed the finances and reported that we have 112 paid members which is ahead of last May. New members Jeff Kaskin of Scarsdale, NY and John Mathews of Selden were welcomed. The members were asked to come up with a new logo for LIEVT. Steve thanked Jack McLoughlin of Fireresearch Corp. for their support and help with the website, printing, stationery, etc.
Steve introduced Jerry Herbst of Elkhart Brass - He discussed the nozzles in depth. He reminded everyone that their kits are in stock and available. Elkhart CD’s were distributed. A lively Q & A followed. Jerry reminded the members that Elkhart is always there for them. Steve presented a plaque to Jerry Herbst as well as one to the Hauppauge Fire Department.
The raffle was very nice – Fire News donated theater tickets, Fireresearch gave a gift certificate and Elkhart made nice contribnutions including a gift certificate. Barnwell House of Tires gave some very nice Barnwell sweats and other pieces of apparel.
Steve reminded the members to remember to visit the website for the latest announcements and to please contribute ideas for informative meetings.
