The meeting was opened by the President, Bill D’Alessandro, who led the pledge to the flag. Kit read the minutes of the January meeting – Bill asked the members to make a motion to accept the minutes – the minutes were accepted. He then asked the attendees to observe a minute of silence to remember our departed and ill members and our service members overseas.

The treasurer, Barbara Connelly , gave her report. The membership is increasing steadily. She talked about the binder given to each member. They will be given a certificate for each training class they attend – they should maintain them in the binder. If anyone or any agency questions their competence they can refer to the certificates of completion in their binder. The members who had not received their LIEVT shirts were given them at this meeting. Barbara reminded the members that LIEVT has a FACEBOOK page. She talked about the insurance we had to have to cover us at the host departments. The company has online classes our members can take advantage of.

Full day training classes will be held on April 2 and April 10. Sign up forms are posted on this site.

Bill D’Allesandro talked about the Long Island Fire, Rescue and EMS Mega show he attended. He had good reports from the suppliers who do training. He introduced Bill McIndoo who represents ARI- HETRA lifting systems. He did a slide show that included exhaust systems, lifting systems and wheel services. Their products are American made with weatherproof electronics – they can take up to 300,000 pounds capacity and they provide lifetime training. He had interesting handouts for the attendees.

The vice-president, Danny Peluso, provided a riveting instruction that covered record retention, preventative maintenance and many things that are necessary to have a well organized shop and have a tip-top fleet for the fire district. There was a very good Q and A.

The election of officers was held. It had been scheduled for November but that meeting was cancelled because of Sandy. The slate included the sitting officers who were introduced. The motion to accept was made by Nick D’Allesandro and seconded by Richard Fleishauer. The vote was unanimous.

A raffle was held with a bottle from the Wantagh Fire Department and shirts from Mobile Fleet and Fire News.

A collection was made for the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund LIEVT members voted to add $50.00.

Bill D’Allesandro presented a framed certificate of appreciation to Bill McIdoo and to Commissioner Michael Antonucci of The Wantagh Fire Department.

The next meeting will held at Babylon Village FD on Wednesday, March 20.

The meeting was adjourned.
