Meeting Reports The regular meeting of the LONG ISLAND EMERGENCY VEHICLE TECHNICIANS was held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Copiague Fire Department. An excellent dinner was served to the fifty some attendees. This meeting was planned for November but was cancelled after Sandy struck Long Island and caused such devestation.

At 8 PM the meeting was opened by the President, Bill D’Alessandro, who led the pledge to the flag. He called for a minute of silence to remember our ill and departed members and our service members overseas.

The president asked Kit to read the minutes of the meeting at North Bellmore on October 25, 2012 – the minutes were read and approved.

Barbara Connelly, our treasurer, gave each of the members an LIEVT binder. Our Vice-President, Danny Peluso, told the members they will get a certificate for each training class they attend – they should maintain them in this binder. If anyone or any agency questions their competence, they can refer to the certificates of completion in their binder. The members who had not received the LIEVT shirts were given them at this meeting.

Barbara told the group that more members are coming in. LIEVT has a FACEBOOK page. She discussed the need for liability insurance for our meetings. After intensive shopping she now reports we have the coverage our hosts are asking for.

Danny Peluso gave the members details of the plan for the coming year. The executive committee met early in January and thought this would be good. There will be six evening meetings and six training classes during the day.

The next meeting will be at a Nassau firehouse on Thursday, February 28.

The tentative day (9 AM – 3 PM) training classes are:

  • April 2 – Tuesday – Ford factory class at Centereach FD
  • Danny has contacted three Chevy dealers – nothing firm yet.
  • April 10 – Wednesday – Weldon multiplexing at Centereach FD
These two classes will probably be $50.00 each to attend.
  • May – Wheeled Coach is willing to do a class on ambulance electrical.
  • June – Hale Pump and Waterous Pump
  • August – Cummins products discussion
  • October – class at Fire Research and ROM
Danny is talking to Snap-On – they are a very friendly company. He is also working on an ASE class.

Steve Schuman of Waterway told the members about the new NFPA regs re hoses and couplings.

Joe Daniele of Wantagh attended the FDSOA and reported what he learned there.

There was a discussion about a department that bought electric chiefs’ cars and could not add the necessary lighting.

Bill D’Alessandro presented the Copiague Fire Commissioners with a framed certificate of appreciation and LIEVT chefs’ hats

A raffle was held with donations from Nassau Fire Apparatus, Waterway, Rescue Vehicles and Kit.w

The meeting was adjourned.
